Fall prevention programs launched for seniors in Leudal and Peel en Maas
Various fall prevention initiatives and courses are being organized for seniors in the Dutch municipalities of Leudal and Peel en Maas.
In Leudal, Eerstelijnszorg Midden-Limburg and the municipality are hosting free information sessions during the National Fall Prevention Week in late September and early October. These sessions aim to educate residents aged 65 and older about fall risks, including factors like medication use, muscle strength, and home safety. Participants can undergo personal tests to assess their risk levels and receive advice on maintaining independence at home. Those identified as high-risk may qualify for the ‘Vallen Verleden Tijd’ course, which focuses on balance and strength.
In Peel en Maas, several ‘Stevig Staan’ courses are commencing in September. These programs include ‘In Balans’, an 11-week course focused on equilibrium and conditioning, and ‘Vallen Verleden Tijd’, a 5-week active training course involving obstacle courses and coordination exercises. These sessions are designed for independent seniors who have experienced falls or feel unsteady. Registration is handled through local physiotherapy practices in towns such as Beringe, Helden, Maasbree, Meijel, and Baarlo.
