Fallas municipalities demand representation in UNESCO monitoring commission
Local Fallas boards and federations from various municipalities are protesting a restructuring of the Monitoring Commission for the Fallas festival, which is recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Representatives from towns including Alzira, Sueca, Paterna, Manises, Gandia, Torrent, Xàtiva, Sagunt, Dénia, and Borriana expressed concern that the Valencia City Council's modifications exclude the Associacio d’Estudis Fallers. They argue this entity served as a vital link between the regional municipalities and the commission.
The groups emphasize that the original UNESCO application was not limited to the city of Valencia but was a collective, territorial effort involving multiple towns. They are calling for the inclusion of regional representatives and the creation of an autonomous coordination body to represent the interests of the Fallas community to official institutions.
