Fallout: New Vegas becomes an MMO through fan-made mod
A community-led project titled ‘New Vegas: Online,’ developed by Fall-Net Studios, is transforming the single-player RPG Fallout: New Vegas into an MMO-style experience. The mod allows multiple players to explore the Mojave Wasteland simultaneously by adapting the original game’s systems for a shared environment.
The project includes significant content updates, such as ten new creatures, one hundred collectible locations, new factions, and five world expansions featuring unique regions. It also supports the ‘Titans of the New West’ mod to enhance power armor visuals. To ensure stability, developers implemented features like individual quest progression, non-duplicable loot, integrated chat, and combat synchronization inspired by Fallout 76.
Access to the mod requires a Steam version of the original game. While the project is free to use, an optional subscription is available for cosmetic items and minor monthly benefits. The developers have stated that their priority is preserving the original game’s atmosphere and avoiding ‘pay-to-win’ mechanics.
