Falmouth Docks: WWII unexploded bomb safely removed

A suspected 250kg American air-dropped bomb from World War II was discovered in the water at Falmouth Docks in Cornwall. The discovery on Monday led to a multi-agency emergency response involving the Royal Navy, Devon and Cornwall Police, and HM Coastguard.

As specialists assessed the device, safety cordons were expanded from an initial 150 metres to as wide as 750 metres, covering both land and sea. The operation resulted in the evacuation of approximately 336 households and caused significant disruption to local residents and university students.

On Wednesday, the unexploded ordnance was successfully removed and scheduled for disposal in deep water well out at sea. Following the successful removal, authorities lifted all cordons and allowed residents to return to their homes.
