Falun 2027 World Ski Championships face broadcasting uncertainty

The broadcasting rights for the 2027 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun, Sweden, remain undecided despite the event being scheduled to begin on February 24, 2027. The International Ski Federation (FIS) has not yet sold the television rights in Sweden, creating uncertainty for both broadcasters and organizers.

SVT CEO Anne Lagercrantz stated that a decision is urgent, noting that the championships represent a “fantastic experience” and a “great right” to broadcast. The delay poses financial risks for organizers, who struggle to secure sponsorships without a confirmed television agreement. Furthermore, the lack of a broadcaster complicates technical preparations, as the domestic broadcaster typically manages the international production.

In Norway, similar uncertainty exists as no broadcaster has secured the rights there either. While Viaplay has historically broadcasted major skiing events, neither they nor SVT can currently provide a definitive answer regarding the 2027 championships.
