Falun Gong practitioners demand investigation into Toronto consulate assault
Falun Gong practitioners are calling on the Canadian government to investigate a violent incident involving death threats and physical assault outside the Chinese Consulate in Toronto. The incident occurred on September 22, 2026, when a man wearing a jacket with a Chinese flag pattern allegedly attacked practitioners, destroyed protest banners and display boards, and issued death threats, including claims that he could “shoot” individuals under Chinese law.
One female practitioner reported sustaining a facial injury during the confrontation. Following the attack, over 100 practitioners held a protest at Global Affairs Canada, urging the federal government to condemn the violence and address what they describe as “transnational repression.” They claim the attack was a premeditated escalation of previous harassment tactics.
In response to the destruction of physical banners, the media outlet Rebel News deployed a mobile high-resolution LED screen truck near the consulate to display related content. The Toronto Police Service is currently investigating the assault, and Falun Gong representatives have submitted formal letters to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs requesting urgent intervention.
