Falun politicians retreat from proposal to cut disability contact persons

Political leaders in Falun, including members of the Social Democrats and Moderates, have begun to retreat from a proposal that threatened to reduce the availability of contact persons for individuals with disabilities. The proposal faced significant criticism for potentially increasing social isolation and reducing the quality of life for those living in residential facilities.

Local representatives from the Green Party (Miljöpartiet) argue that contact persons provide essential social connection and security that regular staff cannot replicate due to workload and different professional mandates. They emphasize that the role is vital for ensuring individuals can participate in community activities and maintain social ties outside of their living environments, in accordance with the Act concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments (LSS).
