FC Famalicao eliminates SC Braga from League Cup
FC Famalicao secured a place in the Portuguese League Cup semi-finals after defeating SC Braga in a penalty shootout. Following a 2-2 draw in regulation time, Famalicao won the shootout 3-1, with goalkeeper Gabriel Cabral saving three penalties.
Greek forward Giorgos Koutsias was the standout performer for Famalicao, scoring two goals during the first half. His performance brought his season total to seven goals. SC Braga, led by coach Franclim Carvalho, saw Ricardo Horta score twice to force the stalemate, but the loss exacerbates an ongoing crisis for the club, which has struggled with recent league defeats and a lack of confidence.
Braga and Famalicao are scheduled to meet again this Sunday for a Primeira Liga match, as Braga seeks to recover from their recent slump and Famalicao looks to maintain their positive momentum.
