Fameck: Two bomb disposal experts injured by suspicious powder
Two bomb disposal experts were slightly injured on Thursday, September 3, while investigating a suspicious letter sent to the Mayor of Fameck, Michel Liebgott, in the Moselle department of France.
The anonymous envelope contained an unknown powder and a death threat. While specialists from Nancy were conducting technical tests on the substance near the town hall, a sudden reaction caused an explosion. One expert sustained a hand injury, while the other suffered a facial injury and was transported to Bel-Air hospital for medical examinations, including hearing checks.
Authorities noted that the letter was not a booby-trapped device in the traditional sense. The powder, described as grey, was identified as potentially being potassium nitrate, a substance used as an oxidizer. This incident marks at least the fifteenth threatening letter addressed to Mayor Liebgott over the past eight years. The mayor described the repeated intimidation as exhausting for himself, his family, and municipal employees.
