Famiglia Cotarella expands into Bolgheri with new vineyard acquisition

The Cotarella family, a prominent Italian wine producer, has expanded its presence in Tuscany by acquiring three and a half hectares of vineyards in Bolgheri. This move follows the company's established operations in Lazio, Umbria, and Montalcino.

The new estate will operate under the name Le Macioche Bolgheri, maintaining a connection to the family's previous acquisition in Montalcino. The 2024 season marks the first harvest in this territory, with the first wines from the Bolgheri site expected to reach the market in 2027.

Led by sisters Dominga, Enrica, and Marta Cotarella, the company aims to combine technical expertise with a modern stylistic approach. The expansion coincides with a generational shift within the family and a continued focus on research, including recent developments in Umbrian white wines such as the Verdeluce blend.
