Families in Mexico and Peru hold protests over missing persons
In Xalapa, Mexico, relatives of missing persons created cempasúchil flower mandalas in Plaza Lerdo to honor and demand visibility for their loved ones during Day of the Dead celebrations. Victoria Delgadillo Romero, a member of the Familiares Enlaces Xalapa collective, criticized the lack of government action and noted that changes in the State Attorney General's Office often delay investigations as new officials must restart reviews of existing files.
In Arequipa, Peru, Luz Marina Cáceres has been searching for her son, Julio Roncal, who has been missing since July 14. Cáceres has conducted her own investigations, including consulting psychics and searching the banks of the Chili River, following claims that her son may have been thrown into the water. She has raised concerns regarding security footage from a local hostel and the fact that her son's mobile phone was recovered with its data wiped.
