Families in Mexico protest and struggle to find missing relatives

Families in Mexico are facing severe physical, emotional, and logistical challenges while searching for missing loved ones amid perceived institutional failures.

In Mexico City, Inés Lázaro has been searching for her son, Francisco Sandoval Lázaro, who disappeared in April 2018. Lázaro reported that the Mexico City Prosecutor's Office (FGJ) lost her son's investigation file for four years, only to return it nearly empty, lacking essential testimonies and recordings. The prolonged search and stress have caused Lázaro significant health issues, including facial paralysis, hearing loss, and worsening diabetes.

In Acapulco, Guerrero, approximately 100 artisans blocked the Costera Miguel Alemán avenue to demand information regarding the disappearance of two indigenous individuals, Mario Evangelista and Emanuel Deloya Jiménez, who went missing on September 26. Relatives expressed frustration with the State Prosecutor's Office, stating they have received no concrete leads despite ongoing searches. The protest caused significant traffic disruptions for residents and tourists in the coastal area.
