Families of Sarawak Flying Doctor crash victims seek compensation clarity

Nearly one month after the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter tragedy in Long Lellang, Sarawak, which claimed five lives, the families of the victims are seeking clarity regarding welfare and compensation.

Izzati Syamimi, the widow of pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, has publicly expressed frustration over the perceived silence from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) and the central government. The bereaved families are questioning why the responsibility for compensation appears to have been shifted entirely to the helicopter operator, Layang-Layang Aerospace, rather than being addressed by the government.

The families are calling for equal justice for all victims regardless of their appointment status, emphasizing that the deceased were performing official duties for the public. Additionally, the families reported difficulties in retrieving the personal belongings of the deceased, which remain in police custody.
