Family caregiving pressures lead to delayed medical checkups in Vietnam
Many individuals in Vietnam are delaying essential medical examinations due to the dual responsibilities of raising children and caring for elderly parents while maintaining employment. This trend often leads to patients missing the critical window for effective medical treatment.
Data from the International Labour Organization (ILO) highlights a significant gender disparity in these caregiving duties. In Vietnam, women spend an average of 20.2 hours per week on housework and caregiving, nearly double the 10.7 hours spent by men. This time pressure, combined with the need to manage work schedules and childcare, frequently results in individuals postponing healthcare to prioritize family needs and financial stability.
