Family clan arrested for cigarette smuggling in Viña del Mar

A family clan consisting of a father, his son, and a woman has been arrested for cigarette smuggling, money laundering, and criminal association in the Valparaíso region of Chile. The group operated primarily between the communes of Viña del Mar and Quintero, distributing illicit cigarettes through local street markets, including an egg stall at a free market.

Following a two-year investigation involving surveillance, wiretapping, and home inspections, the Investigative Police (PDI) and the Public Ministry seized firearms, ammunition, high-end vehicles, and cash. The total value of the seized goods and assets is estimated at approximately $140 million CLP.

The three suspects have been formalized for customs receiving, possession of firearms and ammunition, and money laundering. They are currently under house arrest while a 60-day investigation period is established.
