Family converts school bus into 30m² mobile tiny house

A couple, Luka and David, has converted a 2003 Blue Bird school bus into a 30-square-meter mobile tiny house to live with their three children and a dog. The project, which took two and a half years to complete, involved purchasing the 12-meter-long vehicle for 16,000 euros in April 2022 and investing approximately 53,000 euros in renovations, bringing the total investment to roughly 70,000 euros.

Despite having no prior construction experience, the couple performed most of the work themselves. Key modifications included raising the roof by 40 centimeters to increase storage space and installing large windows and a skylight. The interior features a living area with a sofa used for homeschooling and movies, a kitchen with prioritized counter space, and a small wood-burning stove for heating during off-grid use in cold climates. They also utilize a mini-split system for heating and cooling when connected to shore power.
