Family demands justice after nurse killed in Mercedes-Benz hit-and-run
The family of a 38-year-old nurse killed in a Mercedes-Benz collision in Changhua is demanding severe legal punishment, including the death penalty. According to dashcam footage, the victim was struck while walking on a crosswalk and was pushed along the vehicle's hood for approximately 30 to 40 meters. After she fell from the hood, the vehicle reportedly turned around and ran over her a second time.
The suspect, a 30-year-old man, initially fled the scene. During a recent visit to the funeral hall, the suspect's father claimed his son suffers from mental illness and has not been taking medication, noting that the two had been out of contact for some time.
The victim's brother has strongly rejected the use of mental illness as a means to evade criminal responsibility or reduce sentencing. The family and local residents in Erlin have held vigils, calling for justice and urging the government to review laws to ensure that intentional or extremely negligent vehicular deaths are not treated as routine traffic accidents.
