Family dispute erupts over cremation of Anita Mui’s mother

A family dispute has erupted following the cremation of Tam Mei-kam, the 102-year-old mother of the late Cantopop icon Anita Mui. The cremation took place on the 19th at the Fu Shan Crematorium in a low-key ceremony attended by relatives and fans.

Mui Kai-ming, Anita Mui’s eldest son, expressed intense anger, claiming he was not notified of the cremation date. He alleged that his nephew, who is acting as the executor of the will, proceeded with the cremation to ‘destroy evidence’ and claimed he had applied for an injunction to prevent the process. Mui Kai-ming stated he attempted to see his mother one last time on the 18th but was denied access by management.

In contrast, media commentator Pan Xiaowen reported that the funeral was carried out peacefully according to Tam Mei-kam’s wishes, managed by her grandchildren. Pan noted that the grandchildren handled all arrangements and expressed hope that the public would protect them from unnecessary pressure. Regarding the estate, reports suggest that Anita Mui’s trust fund has been exhausted, leaving no significant inheritance.
