Family disputes arise over inheritance and property ownership in Vietnam

Two personal accounts highlight complex family dynamics regarding inheritance and financial transparency in Vietnam.

In one instance, a woman describes the emotional impact of her father-in-law's decision to distribute assets. After living with her and her husband for four years and receiving dedicated care for his health, the father-in-law allocated 2 billion VND of a 3 billion VND land sale to his daughter-in-law, who is raising two children following her husband's infidelity. The woman and her husband received 1 billion VND, and the daughter-in-law was also granted ownership of her current residence.

In a separate case, a mother recounts a conflict involving her daughter's request to have her stand as the legal owner of a new apartment. The daughter intended to keep the property as a private asset using her own savings. However, the son-in-law requested the mother not sign the documents, revealing that the couple was experiencing financial tension and a breakdown of trust following previous disagreements over investments and secret savings.
