Family disputes arise over renovation costs and unpaid labor

Personal accounts highlight growing tensions within families regarding financial expectations and unpaid labor during home renovations.

A 68-year-old man, Tomáš, shared his experience of providing two months of free manual labor to help his daughter and son-in-law renovate an apartment in Prague. Despite his belief that family should help one another without invoices, his son-in-law, an IT specialist, attempted to charge him for technical assistance after a laptop failure.

In a separate instance, a woman named Adéla reported a dispute with her mother over a promised financial contribution for a kitchen renovation. After Adéla and her husband proceeded with the project based on her mother's offer to pay, the mother retracted the promise, citing unexpected expenses. Adéla noted that she has access to her mother's bank account due to previous financial assistance provided after her father's death.
