Family disputes autopsy findings in Gedion Makau's death in police custody
The family of 44-year-old Gedion Makau has rejected autopsy results following his death at Kilungu Police Station in Makueni County. While pathologists determined Makau died from asphyxiation caused by neck compression, his family disputes the circumstances, questioning whether the death was a suicide as claimed by authorities or the result of foul play by officers.
Makau had been arrested on August 11 over allegations of possessing a machete. His relatives expressed distrust toward the police, noting they were denied access to the scene where the alleged suicide occurred. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched an investigation into the incident.
