Family farmers in Brazil secure contracts to supply local public schools

Municipalities in Brazil are expanding opportunities for family farmers to supply local public schools through food procurement programs.

In Jaru, the City Hall, via the Municipal Education Secretariat, has contracted 18 rural producers to supply food for the municipal school network. This initiative, part of the National School Feeding Program (PNAE), involves products such as pumpkin, zucchini, banana, sweet potato, watermelon, and acerola pulp. The expected investment for these purchases is approximately R$ 223,000, providing local farmers with a stable market and food security for students.

Similarly, in Itaituba, local farmers participated in a presentation and evaluation process to supply public schools. A commission inspected the quality of the presented items to ensure they meet the required criteria for the municipal school network, reinforcing the role of family farming in local food supply chains.
