Family of Argentine Femicide Victim Seeks Justice 14 Years On
Fourteen years after the brutal 2012 femicide of 16‑year‑old Cristina Olivares in Pocito, San Juan, Argentina, her mother Sandra Rojas continues to live with fear and grief. Olivares was stabbed 163 times by her partner Miguel Ángel Palma, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, and his lover Rosa Videla. Rojas says the case has never fully healed, noting that the perpetrator’s family lives nearby and that attempts to obtain parole for Palma keep reopening old wounds.
Rojas also alleges that a wider network of family complicity was never investigated, despite forensic evidence linking other relatives to the crime scene. She emphasizes that her primary concern is keeping her daughter’s memory alive while demanding a thorough judicial review of the case.
