Family of Cristina Ramos demands location of body after Venezuela quake rescue

Cristina Margarita Ramos, known as the “señora de las uñas bonitas,” was rescued alive from the rubble of Playa Grande following the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on 24 June. After the rescue, her family says she was taken to a temporary morgue at the Los Silos facility in La Guaira, where relatives identified her in a photographic register.

Despite the identification, authorities have not disclosed where her remains were transferred. Daughter Crisnel Mata has repeatedly appealed to Attorney General Larry Devoe and CICPC director Douglas Rico for answers, and has visited the morgue and hospitals more than 50 times without locating the body. The family also disputes claims that the Naval Hospital in La Guaira received her, noting a lack of any record of her presence. They are demanding an investigation into the handling of her remains.
