Family of 'El Teo' Blocks El Dorado Toll Booth to Demand Altiplano Medical Care
Relatives and defenders of Teodoro García Simental, alias “El Teo”, staged a protest at the El Dorado toll plaza on the Toluca‑Atlacomulco highway. They lifted the barrier plumes, allowing vehicles to pass without paying, to draw attention to the inmate’s urgent need for medical treatment at the high‑security Centro Federal de Readaptación Social No. 1 "Altiplano" in Almoloya de Juárez.
The demonstrators displayed banners accusing the prison director, Luis Fernando Mendoza Castellanos, of neglect and wrongdoing, referencing the prior death of inmate Mauricio Quezada Zamora, who allegedly died after being denied dialysis. Authorities monitored the protest, but no major incidents were reported.
The family says García Simental’s health has deteriorated over recent years and that the federal penitentiary has not provided the specialized care required.
