Family of Romina Ibarra demands trial for 2025 femicide

The family of Romina Marisol Ibarra is demanding justice more than a year and a half after the teacher's death. Ibarra, 38, was killed on February 11, 2025, following a violent attack by her former partner, Hugo César Ortiz, which left her with multiple stab wounds.

Although the case was elevated to trial, the oral debate has faced repeated delays. A scheduled hearing on August 18, 2026, was suspended after the defendant refused to leave his cell and requested a new public defender. Subsequently, the defense filed a motion regarding potential mental incapacity under the Formosa Criminal Procedure Code. The family maintains that while the defendant's rights must be respected, the victims deserve a judicial response within a reasonable timeframe.
