Family of UASLP student demands justice after fatal shooting

The family of Gabriel Salvador Martínez Flores, a 21-year-old criminology student and national archery medalist at the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí (UASLP), is demanding justice following his murder. The incident occurred on August 7 in the Rural Atlas neighborhood of San Luis Potosí, where the student was reportedly shot twice during an apparent robbery while returning from his daily activities.

In response to the killing, the victim's family sent an open letter to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. The letter emphasizes that the young man should not be reduced to a mere statistic of violence, highlighting his personal projects, his role in supporting his family, and his academic pursuits. The family has also raised concerns regarding local insecurity, specifically citing a lack of lighting and surveillance in the area where the attack took place.
