Family support initiatives provide assistance in Velbert and Landau

Various social support initiatives in Germany are providing assistance to families facing daily challenges and psychological stressors.

In Velbert, a long-standing cooperation between the Bergische Diakonie, the City of Velbert, and the Freiwilligen Agentur Velbert provides family godparents to assist households. For over 13 years, volunteers have offered support such as spending time with children, reading, or providing parents with respite. Due to high demand, the project is currently seeking new volunteers to commit approximately two to four hours per week.

In Landau, the Christliches Jugenddorfwerk Deutschlands (CJD) offers Social Pedagogical Family Help (SPFH) to address domestic conflicts and mental health issues in children and adolescents. Specialists work directly within homes to support families dealing with symptoms of stress, such as social withdrawal, aggressive behavior, or physical ailments like headaches. The program also addresses modern challenges, including the impact of social media and excessive screen time on family dynamics.
