Family travel guidance covers document requirements and vacation preferences

Travelers planning family vacations should ensure children have valid, individual travel documents to avoid issues at check-in or border crossings. In Switzerland, children and infants require their own passports or identity cards, as parental documents are insufficient for international travel. While identity cards often suffice for travel within Europe, passports are typically required for destinations outside the continent. Travelers should also account for transit country requirements and the fact that some nations mandate documents remain valid for several months beyond the planned departure date.

A study by Holiday Inn by IHG involving 750 parents in Germany suggests that children often value simple moments, freedom, and quality time over expensive attractions. While 86 percent of parents feel responsible for making vacations special, the study indicates that children are increasingly involved in the planning process, with 40 percent of parents actively seeking their input on activities and dining.
