Famitsu reports Japanese video game sales for August 2026

Japanese hardware and software sales data for the week of August 17 to August 23, 2026, reveals a decline in hardware shipments compared to the previous week. The Switch 2 led hardware sales with 20,734 units, down from 65,560 units in the prior period. The PS5 Digital Edition recorded 5,866 units, while the Switch Lite saw 3,543 units sold.

In software, Rhythm Heaven Groove topped the charts with 37,402 copies sold. Other notable performers included Splatoon Raiders and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. The Steins;Gate Reboot saw significant debuts, appearing in the top five for both Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 platforms.
