Veracruz arpist Delfino Guerrero recovers stolen arpa and jarana

Renowned Veracruz musician Delfino Guerrero reported that his 32‑string arpa and cedar jarana were stolen from his vehicle in Boca del Río on the night of 30 July 2026. The instruments, valued at roughly 40‑70 000 pesos each and considered irreplaceable for his performances, were taken without visible damage to the vehicle. Guerrero posted images and a request for public help on social media, warning that the thieves might attempt extortion.

Hours later, a customer at Plaza Las Brisas (also reported as Plaza Las Américas) noticed two abandoned instrument cases in the parking lot and alerted the plaza’s administration. Security staff secured the items and contacted Guerrero, who retrieved the arpa and jarana later that night. He thanked the community, the plaza staff, and the citizen who reported the find, describing the recovery as a “miracle” of solidarity. Guerrero filed a complaint with the regional prosecutor but said he seeks no vengeance, only respect for traditional musicians’ work.

The incident sparked widespread support among fellow artists and cultural promoters, highlighting the sentimental and cultural importance of the instruments beyond their monetary value.
