FANB unveils 2026-2032 strategic modernization plan

Venezuela's Defense Minister, Gustavo González López, has presented the 2026-2032 Strategic Modernization Plan for the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB). The plan focuses on the integration of artificial intelligence and unmanned systems to enhance territorial defense and operational readiness.

During a meeting with the Expanded Military High Command at Fuerte Tiuna, officials highlighted the importance of technological advancement in modern warfare. Presentations included an analysis of the conflict in Ukraine, noting that drones have displaced traditional artillery as a primary cause of attrition on the battlefield, with reports suggesting drones account for 70-80% of casualties in modern conflicts.

Key military leaders in attendance included Rubén Darío Belzares Escobar, head of the Strategic Operational Command (Ceofanb), Víctor Hugo Borjas Trujillo, and Juan Ernesto Sulbarán Quintero, commander general of the Bolivarian National Guard.
