Fano Adriano and Pietracamela dispute waste management tender
The municipalities of Fano Adriano and Pietracamela have decided to launch a public tender for urban hygiene services through the Abruzzo Regional Agency for Informatization and Waste Management (AGIR). This decision marks a departure from the MoTe S.p.A. consortium, a move that has drawn sharp criticism from labor unions including FP Cgil, Fit Cisl, and Uiltrasporti.
Labor unions warn that the exit of these two mountain municipalities could jeopardize the rescue plan for MoTe S.p.A., potentially leading to judicial liquidation and job losses. They also highlight a projected cost increase of approximately 40,000 euros, which they fear will be passed on to citizens via waste taxes. Additionally, unions have raised concerns regarding inconsistencies in the tender documentation concerning social clauses intended to protect staff.
In response, the administration of Fano Adriano defended the tender as a legally and economically prudent measure. They cited the structural crisis and uncertain financial situation of MoTe S.p.A., noting that continuing to rely on the consortium could expose local administrations to risks of financial damage and service disruptions. The municipalities maintain that the tender complies with national and EU environmental and public service regulations.
