Fano's Corte Malatestiana Stages Shakespeare-Inspired 'Love Forbidden' Performance

On Saturday, 1 August 2026, the historic Corte Malatestiana in the coastal town of Fano, Italy, will host "Shakespeare – L'amore proibito che non poteva essere raccontato," a 70‑minute performance created and directed by Michele Antonio D'Apote. The show, produced by Fondazione Teatro della Fortuna in partnership with the Comune di Fano and AMAT, offers a contemporary reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s world through physical theatre and dance.

Centered on the figure of John Florio, an English lexicographer of Italian origin, the piece explores themes of identity, artistic freedom, and hidden passions. Nine performers—including Jacopo Sergi as William Shakespeare and Alessandro Rombini as John Florio—combine movement, music, lighting, and visual imagery to engage the audience directly.

D'Apote, who trained in the Marche region, Rome and New York, aims to shift focus from Shakespeare’s famed characters to the stories that have long remained on the margins, prompting reflection on social conventions and personal liberty.
