Fans cheaper than AC for summer cooling in Spain and Austria

A test by a Spanish electrician showed that operating a 50‑watt fan for eight hours a day costs about €0.75 per month, or under €3 for the four hottest summer months. The low consumption makes fans an economical alternative to air‑conditioners.

Consumer groups in Austria advise keeping air‑conditioners on continuously rather than switching them on and off, because frequent restarts increase energy use. They recommend using inverter models, setting temperatures around 24‑25 °C, and combining units with fans or shading to further reduce power demand.
