Fansipan Cable Car Project Celebrates 10‑Year Milestone with Rare Photos

Engineers who built the cable‑car line to Vietnam’s Fansipan peak have released a collection of previously unseen photographs taken during the project’s construction. The team recalls spending roughly 800 days navigating dense forest, steep slopes and unpredictable weather to lay the route that now carries passengers from Mường Hoa valley to the summit in about 15 minutes.

The images, captured on mobile phones during brief breaks, show early survey work, makeshift planning tables at the Vân Sam Hotel, and the multinational crew of Sun Group and Austrian rope‑way specialist Doppelmayr collaborating on technical drawings. The project, which began in July 2013 before a formal office existed, required constant route revisions as engineers tested cable paths against the rugged Hoàng Liên landscape. The newly published photos illustrate both the physical challenges and the shared technical language that enabled the cable‑car line to be completed.

The release offers a visual history of one of Vietnam’s most ambitious tourism infrastructure projects, highlighting the perseverance of the engineers and the cross‑border expertise that made the line possible.
