Fantasy literature highlights ahead of São Paulo Book Biennial 2026
The fantasy and romantasy genres continue to hold a significant place in the literary imagination, offering readers a way to explore complex human themes like courage, fear, and maturity through extraordinary worlds. Works such as J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit’ demonstrate how these narratives remain relevant across generations by using magical settings to symbolize real-world journeys.
In preparation for the 2026 São Paulo Book Biennial, scheduled for September 4–13 at the Distrito Anhembi, several Brazilian fantasy works are being highlighted. Featured titles include ‘Deusa de Fúria’ by FML Pepper, which follows a warrior girl seeking answers in a dying world, and ‘Ignis Lacrimosa’, a story involving a conflict between witches and alchemists that leads to an uneasy peace between rival kings.
