FAO honors Dominican President and singer Juan Luis Guerra in Rome

During the closing of the 2026 World Food Forum in Rome, Italy, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) issued recognitions to Dominican leadership and culture.

FAO Director General Qu Dongyu honored Dominican President Luis Abinader for his government's efforts in removing the Dominican Republic from the Hunger Map. The recognition highlighted the administration's commitment to food security, nutrition, and agricultural policies designed to support national production and rural producers.

Additionally, singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra received an award for his iconic song ‘Ojalá que llueva café’. FAO officials noted that the composition serves as a cultural symbol for the aspirations of rural communities seeking to overcome poverty and hunger through agricultural prosperity.
