FAO names two Chinese women to ‘100 Heroines’ list

Two Chinese women, Yu Jinxiu and Dong Minfang, have been named to the FAO ‘100 Heroines’ list as part of the ‘Agri-food Systems and Rural Development’ initiative. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) launched this global recognition to celebrate the International Year of Women in Agriculture 2026.

Yu Jinxiu is a moxibustion therapy specialist from Qichun County, Hubei Province. Recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage expert, she has trained over 30,000 professionals and supported rural incomes, particularly for women and people with disabilities. Dong Minfang serves as the president of the Fengrui Agricultural Machinery Professional Cooperative in Yueyang County, Hunan Province.

The selection process involved 609 candidates from 131 member nations. An award ceremony is scheduled for October 15 at the FAO headquarters in Rome during the World Food Forum.
