FAO reports one in three people globally cannot afford healthy diets in 2025
Global food security is facing a significant decline, with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) reporting that one in three people worldwide could not afford a healthy diet in 2025. Approximately 645 million people faced hunger during the same period.
Humanitarian organizations, including Welthungerhilfe and Aktion gegen den Hunger, warn that the goal of a world without hunger is moving further out of reach. The crisis is being driven by conflict, climate change, and a reduction in humanitarian aid. Regions such as Somalia, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Sahel are particularly affected, where the impacts of climate change are most severe.
Reports indicate that hunger conditions have worsened in 32 countries. Experts note a concerning trend where military spending is increasing while funding for development cooperation and humanitarian assistance is being reduced in several nations.
