Far EasTone advances 6G satellite communication and Amazon Leo partnership

Far EasTone Telecommunication is advancing its satellite communication strategy, focusing on the integration of terrestrial networks with satellite technology to prepare for the 6G era. During the 2026 6G Summit Taipei, the company showcased its multi-orbit approach, featuring both Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geostationary Orbit (GEO) equipment and user terminals.

Far EasTone is currently collaborating with Amazon's LEO satellite service, Amazon Leo. General Manager Jing Qi reported that the partnership is progressing through a six-stage regulatory process, with four stages already completed. The company aims to launch these high-speed LEO services in Taiwan as early as next year.

The company's strategy emphasizes using LEO satellites to provide coverage in remote areas, islands, and maritime regions where traditional ground networks are limited. Additionally, satellite links will serve as critical backhaul options to enhance network resilience during natural disasters or emergencies.
