Far-right networks target female suffrage in Brazil

An investigation by BBC News Brasil has identified a coordinated effort by far-right networks to challenge the validity of female suffrage. Despite women representing 52.81% of the Brazilian electorate—totaling approximately 83.8 million people—influencers, religious leaders, and certain online communities are promoting discourse that questions women's capacity to vote independently.

These efforts include arguments suggesting that women lack emotional stability for political decision-making or that their votes should be subordinate to male heads of households. Some digital influencers have explicitly argued that the world declined once women gained a political voice, while others claim that women, particularly single women, vote poorly statistically.
