Farah Khan discusses industry dynamics and casting decisions
Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan recently shared insights regarding the changing dynamics within the Bollywood film industry. During an appearance on the show Double Date, Khan noted that many contemporary actors lack confidence in their colleagues, often attempting to interfere in departments such as choreography, music, casting, and direction.
Khan suggested that this tendency to overstep professional boundaries stems from a lack of self-assurance. She contrasted this with her experience working with Shah Rukh Khan, whom she noted never questioned her casting decisions, such as her choice to cast Sushmita Sen in Main Hoon Na or Deepika Padukone in Om Shanti Om.
Additionally, Khan reflected on her decision to cast singer Shreya Ghoshal for the Main Hoon Na soundtrack. Despite industry members expressing concerns that working with an unproven newcomer was a mistake, Khan and composer Anu Malik chose to pursue Ghoshal’s fresh voice. Ghoshal, who was 18 at the time, has since become a prominent playback singer in Hindi cinema.
