FARC dissident leader ‘Urías Perdomo’ killed in Colombian military operation

Colombian military forces have neutralized Juan Antonio Agudelo Salazar, known as ‘Urías Perdomo’, during an operation in the rural area of El Retorno, Guaviare. Authorities identified Salazar as a leader of the Rodrigo Cadete structure of the FARC dissidents and a key lieutenant to the commander known as ‘Calarcá’. The operation reportedly resulted in the deaths of eight members of the armed group.

Caquetá Governor Luis Francisco Ruiz stated that Salazar was one of the most wanted individuals in the department, with rewards offered by both the local government and the Ministry of Defense. Ruiz attributed various criminal activities to Salazar, including attacks against the public forces, extortion of local businesses, and bombings targeting the family of a social manager. He expressed that his removal would bring significant relief to the region.

Antioquia Governor Andrés Julián Rendón also commented on the operation, praising the military's determination. Rendón used the event to contrast current security strategies with previous administration policies, while also making political insinuations regarding the information the deceased leader may have held.
