Faridpur illegal medicine factory raid leads to NCP leader's imprisonment

Joint forces, including the district administration and the Special Response Battalion (SRB), conducted raids on an illegal medicine manufacturing facility in Faridpur. The factory, operating under the name ‘Janata Ayurvedic Laboratories,’ was found to be producing adulterated Ayurvedic medicines, harmful baby food products, and illegal sexual stimulants without any authorized chemists or valid documentation.

The facility was reportedly operated by Bayezid Hossain Shahed, a former senior joint convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Faridpur. Following the discovery of the illegal operations, Shahed was sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment and fined 10,000 BDT. He has since been expelled from the NCP.

During the most recent raid, authorities seized adulterated goods and raw materials valued at approximately 300,000 BDT. An employee, Zillur Rahman, was detained and sentenced to 20 days of rigorous imprisonment by a mobile court. Officials noted that the harmful products manufactured at this site were being distributed to various districts, including Dhaka, Chattogram, and Rajshahi. Authorities are currently working to destroy the seized materials and plan to conduct further raids in areas where the products were supplied.
