Farm Fire in Bavaria Kills 15 Cattle and Causes Multi‑Million Euro Damage
A fire erupted on a farm in Vorbach, in the Oberpfalz region of Bavaria, when a tractor caught fire and the flames quickly spread to a nearby barn and cattle stable. Fifteen cattle perished and the damage is estimated at between four and six million euros.
Six firefighters were injured during the operation, some suffering heart‑related issues due to the high temperatures, and one was air‑lifted to hospital by helicopter. Fire crews prevented the blaze from reaching the residential house on the property. Authorities suspect a technical defect in the tractor as the cause, though an arson motive has not been ruled out.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by rural fire services during extreme summer conditions, with the fire services deploying significant resources to contain the blaze and protect nearby forested areas.
