Farm is Table dining event debuts in Austria

The “Farm is Table” dinner format made its Austrian debut from August 11 to 13 at Biohof Achleitner in Pupping, near Eferding. The event, a collaboration between Biohof Achleitner and the Gaumen Hoch initiative, featured a long dining table built directly into the soil, allowing guests to eat amidst the fields where their food is grown.

The event aimed to highlight the critical connection between soil health, agriculture, and gastronomy, particularly in the context of climate change. In the first half of 2026, Austria experienced a 27 percent decrease in precipitation compared to long-term averages, with some regions seeing deficits up to 50 percent. These drought conditions have led to significant agricultural damage, estimated by the Austrian Hail Insurance to be around one billion euros.

The culinary program featured various chefs, including Theresia Palmetzhofer and Klemens Gold, focusing on seasonal, regional, and organic ingredients. The concept draws inspiration from the “Floor Furniture Series” by New York architect Allan Wexler, which was previously implemented at Treiber Farms in the United States.
