Farm worker fatalities reach decade high in UK

Agricultural worker fatalities in Wales, England, and Scotland reached a decade high during 2025-26, with 22 recorded deaths according to HSE figures. While the total number of deaths is second only to the construction sector, the rate of farm deaths is seven times higher per 100,000 workers and 21 times more likely than the all-industry average.

Local families have highlighted the personal toll of these accidents. In Llanycil, the wife of a farmer who died after falling into a slurry pit described the increasing frequency of such tragedies in the region. She noted that despite taking safety precautions, such as wearing a helmet, the dangers of the profession remain extreme.
