Farmer arrested for arson in Santa Giusta

A 49-year-old livestock farmer, identified as Luigi Loggias, has been arrested in flagrante for setting fires in the Mascaminis area near Santa Giusta, Oristano. The arrest followed a targeted surveillance operation by the Forest Corps and Environmental Vigilance during the night of August 17-18.

Investigators believe the suspect was responsible for a series of fires in the area dating back to July 23. The most recent blaze destroyed approximately 400 square meters of Mediterranean scrubland, including cistus and reeds, near the Statale 131 highway. The crime was noted as particularly aggravated because it occurred during periods of high temperature and orange-level fire risk alerts.

Upon his arrest, authorities discovered ignition materials in his vehicle. Additionally, the suspect faces further charges for the possession of four knives and a rifle bullet, as well as for illegal waste disposal involving paper and plastic.
