Farmer in Bursa finds success with heirloom pepper production

Mehmet Ali İnan, a 66-year-old farmer in the Bakırköy neighborhood of Karacabey, Bursa, has turned to producing spicy pepper flakes using heirloom seeds to recover from market losses in vegetable cultivation.

İnan plants approximately 35,000 seedlings on a five-acre area. After harvesting and drying the peppers in fields and greenhouses, he processes them into flakes with the help of his mother and children. He produces an average of one ton of pepper flakes per season, selling the product for 400 lira per kilogram to various provinces, including Gaziantep, and local restaurants.
